I've been planning on doing this for over a year, but a nasty virus pushed me to it.... I've crossed over to the dark side!
Long ago, I decided that once my old Toshiba hit the four year mark, I'd replace it with a MacBookPro. You gotta love a company that gives discounts to educators, even if they are relatively small. But still, it's better than nothing.
A few times I came close to making the leap last summer but I just couldn't do it. I still knew that the old Toshiba had a lot of life left in her.
Anyway, fastforward almost a year later, and there's a permanent red line on my laptop and then it got hit with a virus. Now, of course, if I hadn't planned on buying a new computer this summer, I would have fixed the virus. But why bother when I'd already made the decision?
I decided to make the leap today after school. It was a pretty awesome shopping experience. Not only did I score a new computer, but I got a free iPod Touch as part of their back-to-school promo. I'm going to give it to my dad. I also got a $100 off a printer, and I figured I might as well go for it since my printer is way old and I dunno even know if it works anymore.
And what's even cooler, and impressive to me, is that I can bring in my old laptop and have them transfer all of my data for me. Woot! That's on my to-do list for this week.
I laugh at myself that it's not even summer, and I've more or less spent a good portion of my summer paycheque on a bike and a new computer, but at least I'll be ready for a great summer!

What??? Too good for ubuntu?
Cool. Do all the Macbooks/Macbook Pros have glossy screens now? That's the one thing I hate about my Macbook. It's got this stupid reflecting glare.
Once you get all that stuff x-ferred to your new laptop, you won't even need to try and get the virus off your Toshiba. Just stick the original Windows CD in and do a clean install before you give it to the rents. Once the hard disk goes through the format, the virus will auto-magically disappear.
I'm liking wigsf's comment. Though I don't know how many people are even aware of what *ubuntu is.
