Just a little while ago, The Grunt tagged me with the “6 Weird Things” tag, where you simply state six weird things about yourself. I’ve been having a really really tough time thinking of these six weird things let me tell you, not because I’m not weird, but I think since I’m used to my weirdness, my weirdness does not seem weird at all to me. Here is what I’ve come up with:
1) Trigonometry/Calculus Therapy – If I’m feeling nervous, or anxious, or upset and I want to calm myself down, I will do a bit of trig or calc in my head. (Sine = opposite over hypotenuse; the derivative of 3x2 is 6x et cetra.) It’s weirdly calming – at least for me it is. I’m sure some people would find quite the opposite. I read a book (The Memory Keeper’s Daughter) where the main character would recite the periodic table in his head to calm down. Quite frankly, I’d like to try that sometime.
2) Elevator Games – I live on the 27th floor. Hence, I spend a lot of time in the elevator. To pass the time, I will play little games in my head (like closing my eyes for awhile and guessing what floor I’m on when I open my eyes). Once I was in the elevator with my roommate and I asked her what elevator games she played in her head to pass the time (perhaps hoping that I’d learn some new ones). She gave me a weird look, and then I had to explain the whole elevator game thing to her. She declared me weird. Apparently she likes to think of useful things while in the elevator.
3) Christmas Tree Soap Opera – I don’t do this anymore, but the holiday season reminded me of this weird tradition that I had as a kid. As soon as our Christmas tree was up, I’d sit beside it in the evening and make up stories about the ornaments in my head. Quite involved ones, where the tree was more or less their town and they were characters living in the town. That seems even weirder as I type it.
4) Rubbing my Hands Together – Most people do this when they are cold. I do it when I’m excited or hatching an evil plot. My friends have noticed it and make fun of me for it (especially in high school). I don’t think I do this as much any more, which I see as a sign as I’m not concocting enough trouble these days.
5) Play List Queen – Maybe this isn’t so weird; I just have no idea whether other people do this as much as I do. I’m not a fan of putting my iPod on shuffle, because it ends up that I keep rejecting every song that comes up. I’m constantly making “On the Go” playlists. I have a hard time erasing these lists, so my iPod is chock full of lists with titles such as “End of September List” “Last Week of School List” and so on. Do other people do this?
6) Rarely Writing Things Down – I rely on my memory for most things. When I first started emailing my friends a lot (in my first year of university), I didn’t bother using an address book: I had all of their emails in my head and I’d just type them in. I don’t do this anymore but I don’t bother with a daytimer or anything like that – I just remember everything. That’s why if I have a little memory lapse (like forgetting that I lent a kid a pen), I really freak out because if my memory goes, so will my whole memorization system. (Side note: I do pride myself on my memory – if you’re ever going to do something embarrassing, don’t do it my presence, it will not be forgotten.)
If I remember correctly (and I always do, hee-hee) I am supposed to tag six people. So I will tag Jolene, Joanna, Sandee, Becksley, Wes, and AlieMalie.

great list.
heh, it's nice to know someone else has a long iPod play list collection. you are not alone, Christielli.
thanks for the tag, i'll get right on it.
I live on the 20th floor and I also have an elavator game. I time how long it is in between floors and I will close my eyes and count the time to see if I can open my eyes right as I get to my floor, so yeah, a little odd here too.

LMAO. I couldn't stop laughing at the christmas decoration one... holy crap that was good. I think I found it so funny because I do something similar, but you'll have to wait for my post to learn more about it. I have a feeling this will also take me a long time to figure it out. I do, however, have to day off today and thursday so that should give me lots of time to think/ post it by the end of the week!!
haha I used to be guilty of the elevator one when I'd deliver papers or go to my grandmother's apartment as a kid.
Also, just came across the best periodic table ever. Perhaps that's a bit of an oversell.
27th floor! So, like, do your ears pop when you're just walking around your house? and no, can't say that i can relate to having experienced the calming quality of calculus. ever.
Omigosh, your Christmas tree soap opera story is the funniest thing EVER! It makes me want to go home and do the same.
Thanks for the tag - you're gonna be surprised at my answer!
Ouch, tagged again. :)
I never make playlists, I don't have a single playlist on my ipod. But its always in shuffle. I love the element of surprise, and if I don't want to listen to that song right now, I go to the next one, its great. When I was a teenager, I saw this cd player that held 100 CDs, and I always thought how cool it would be to have my entire music collection in it, and than just put it on shuffle. Now I have that, and it holds way more than 100 CDs. As for the elevator thing, I have never had the chance to play games because nothing in Saskatoon is higher than 5 stories. :)
I used to scramble the letters of "Life Fitness" written on the treadmill to make words, while passing the time, running. The ones that have really struck me are 'stifle' and 'nestle' I need a new hobby.
dude you're weird.
it's a great list of bizarro goodness.
This has got to be the best "Weird Six" ever, Christielli. Seriously, I dig your weirdness. I am also one that relies on my good memory. I do not own a planner and I have made up stories about plenty of inanimate objects, not Christmas ornaments, but there is still time. Elevator games? I just think of wildly inappropriate things. I take stuff apart and put it together in my head to calm me down: cars, electronics, appliances, Old Man Henderson, stuff like that.
Oh yeah, I figured out how to post comments on Beta Blogger, after it decided to hate me. Sorry, no more avatar, but you get "Ze Grunty!"
Thanks for fulfilling the tag, Christielli. You really like me, don't you?
